In the last few months in the last few months, the Malaysian Islamic Community (MIC) has been increasingly dissident of MUIS. A number of Facebook posts were written by a social activist about the MUIS council as well as its management and other subjects. The leadership of the company lacks supervision to prevent it from mishandling funds and putting Muslims' interests in jeopardy.

The MUIS Council of Governance is a body of the government with a the constitutional obligation of. It provides advice on Muslim matters. However, MUIS can be criticised by Muslims across the globe because it is not autonomous. The administration is accountable, and has to return all money to the estate. As a result the MUIS's leadership has the ability to determine the fate of Islamic institutions within a country.

The MUIS is a statutory institution and is not accountable directly to parliament. However, MUIS is governed by the Administration of Muslim Law Act. The Administration of Muslim Law Act governs MUIS. It is an independent legal advisory board which provides advice to Singapore's President on all matters pertaining to Islam. It oversees administration of mosques across Singapore. As well as being an advocate of Islam in Singapore as well, it is actively involved in promoting Islamic values and traditions within Singapore. This, in turn, benefits the Muslim Community.

MUIS also provides a range of services throughout the country. It started offering Halal-certified services in 1978, when it created the ISEAS/Muis Halal Certification Strategic Unit. This was to respond to the increasing demand for Halal Products as well as the need to regulate the Halal industry. The MUIS's mission has remained the same over the years: to provide services to Muslims throughout the country.

The new scheme will be implemented in stages. The transition phase, which began January. 31st, will run until June 30, 2018. All FHCBs may apply to the MUIS to be recognized in the present time. In this time, FHCBs who are able to apply during the transition period will be given temporary recognition until full introduction of the scheme. Since the establishment of 1979's MUIS, the MUIS Haal Council has been an integral part of the ruling body.
